c2c franchise extended for 16 months
National Express and the Department for Transport have signed an agreement to extend the c2c franchise for a further 16 months.
c2c is the most punctual train operator in the country, with 97.3% of trains on time in the past year, and was the top rail franchise in the recent National Passenger Survey with a 93% satisfaction rate. The new franchise will now run until September 2014, with the potential for a further extension of up to eight months.
During this time our customers will see upgrades to a number of stations including improvements to customer facilities, better access for mobility impaired people, additional cycle parking, and two major station improvement projects - to create an extra entrance to London Fenchurch Street station, and to develop a new vision for Stanford-le-Hope station.
c2c Managing Director Julian Drury said: "As Britain's most punctual and most popular franchise, we're delighted the c2c franchise has been extended. National Express has been operating in the local community for more than a decade, and our customers know how much this service has changed since the days of the Misery Line. Over the next 16 months we aim to maintain our excellent punctuality record while delivering real improvements for passengers at our stations."
