National Express Foundation provides funding for new Youth Club in Hall Green

A new youth club has been launched in Hall Green with funding support from the National Express Foundation. Running every Thursday in term time at St Michael’s Church, the club provides a safe and positive environment for 11-18 year olds to take part in activities such as arts, cooking, drama and crafts.
The club will also help to build positive relationships between young people and older community members through activities and projects which benefit the local community.
The club is being run by Hall Green Youth, a charity established by four churches in Hall Green in response to a lack of activities for young people in the area. Over the last eighteen months, Hall Green Youth has been working at Ninestiles School with a group of young women and this new youth club will provide positive and engaging activities for them and other young people in the area to do.
It has been made possible by a £2,500 grant from the National Express Foundation, one of nine West Midlands projects being supported by the Foundation in 2016.
Jackie Price, Chair of Hall Green Youth said “We are grateful to the National Express Foundation for their financial support which has enabled us to establish this new community youth club which will provide a much needed facility for local young people.”
James Donnan, General Manager of National Express Foundation said “Hall Green Youth clearly did their research and identified that there are few opportunities for young people in the Gospel Oak area. The new weekly youth club that our £2,500 grant is supporting aims to change that by engaging local young people in positive activities in a safe, friendly environment.
“We were particularly impressed with Hall Green Youth’s proposal as it has wider community benefits by building inter-generational understanding between the younger generation and the older community members that use the facilities. Cross-community cohesion is a key area of focus for the projects which the National Express Foundation supports.”
