Birmingham's youngest bus driver, Jacob Pointon from Pype Hayes in Erdington, recently visited National Express West Midlands’ Perry Barr bus garage to celebrate his fourth birthday.
Jacob, who always chooses the front seat for all of his bus journeys with mother Marta, likes to watch the driver whilst he also drives the bus with his own pretend steering wheel.
He has already clocked up many thousands of miles on his daily trips along the 67, X1 and X14 bus routes - and some of these services are operated by Jacob’s favourite bus – the Platinum.
As a birthday surprise the Perry Barr team invited young Jacob along to the garage and let him sit in the cab to take the wheel of one of the latest Platinum buses.
Whilst in the cab Jacob received an unexpected radio call from the rest of the Perry Barr team who sang him a tuneful rendition of “happy birthday”. He then went on a tour of the garage to see where all of the buses he travels on are cleaned and repaired.
The team also presented Jacob with some gifts including a birthday cake, a drivers’ tie and his very own mini hi-vis vest. At the end of his very special day Jacob said his surprise bus garage visit had been lots of fun.
Jacob’s mother Marta said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for making my son’s day. Everyone was so friendly and chatty and his personal birthday radio message was amazing. It was all so much more than I could have asked for.”
