What can I expect from the programme?
The National Express engineering programme is fully accredited and
we will support your further development to gain incorporated or
chartered status with the Engineering Council UK.
To help us achieve our aim we’re looking for people with a passion to achieve who can demonstrate leadership skills, show strong team commitment and integrity, whilst possessing an eye for innovation.
How is the programme structured?
The Trains Engineering scheme is linked to the national rail
industry scheme, administered by the Association of Train Operating
Companies (ATOC) and approved by the Imech E and the IET. You will
be based in either Edinburgh or London and there are then two
distinct phases:
Phase One: Formal training placements in a variety of locations, giving an overview of engineering in the rail industry. This will be supplemented by project tasks within the departments.
Phase Two: This is where you will start in a real role with real engineering responsibility. This could be in a variety of engineering roles across the business and you will be working with professionals in the same area to really help develop your functional expertise.
How else will we develop you?
Our graduate schemes are designed to give you hands–on
experience so in addition to the two phases, you will also
undertake a three-part induction to provide enhanced business
knowledge and leadership skills and further structured individual
and group project work to deepen business knowledge and
experience.
How will we support you?
With all of this going on you will need a really great support, so
its good news for you that we put a lot of energy into making sure
this network is fantastic. You will have a Mentor, Line Management
Support and Graduate Buddy. Whatever it is you need to discuss
there will be lots of people on hand.
