National Express recognises that climate change is a major challenge.  We are committed to playing a full role in the transition to the low carbon economy.

Emissions from transport contribute to nearly a quarter of global CO2 emissions, with over half of these being due to car travel. It is also one of the few sectors where emissions are projected to continue ti increase as growing demand to travel is greater than efficiency improvements in new cars.  In  the UK we forecast that based on 2007 levels the increase could be  a further 19%.  This will impact on our quality of life through increased congestion and continuing problems with local air pollution. When it comes to transport business as usual is not a sustainable option.

In 2008 we published our vision for transport in 2020,  More is Less, which set out the challenge and suggested the more we extend the provision of public transport, the more people use it instead of cars or planes and the less CO2 and pollution will be released into our atmosphere, therefore allowing a clearer and better quality of life for all.
