New Ipswich Revenue Protection Office opens
National Express Group’s ‘one’ railway is opening a new Revenue Protection Office at Ipswich on Monday 14th January. The Revenue Protection Inspectors based at Ipswich will work closely with the British Transport Police and the ‘one’ railway Mainline route team to tackle areas where persistent fare avoidance occurs. In addition, the Revenue Protection Inspectors will also take on a broader role dealing with other issues, including instances of anti-social behaviour and infringements of railway bye-laws.
The establishment of the new office based at Ipswich is the latest in a series of measures which ‘one’ has made over the last year to improve station and train security, including 50 extra Revenue Protection staff, additional security staff at stations, more CCTV equipment and the installation of ‘mosquito’ devices at several stations.
Mark Phillips Operations Director for ‘one’ railway commented:
‘We want our passengers to feel comfortable, confident and safe when travelling with us. We also want to reassure honest fare-paying passengers that we are committed to stamping out fraudulent travel on our network. Fare evasion, ticket fraud and infringements of railway bye-laws are issues we take very seriously. The Revenue Protection Inspectors based at Ipswich will work closely with the British Transport Police to prevent such infringements happening and thereby make the ‘one’ railway network a safer, more pleasant environment for passengers and staff alike.’
