North East and Yorkshire rugby fans get extra train home after Scotland v England clash

11 Feb 2008

Train operator National Express East Coast is laying on an extra service from Edinburgh for rugby fans returning from the Scotland v England six nations match in the city on Saturday 8 March.

The additional service will leave Edinburgh Waverley Station at 6.50pm and call at Newcastle (8.21pm) and Darlington (8.50pm), before terminating in York at 9.20pm.

Kick-off for the RBS 6 Nations match at Murrayfield stadium that afternoon is at 3.15pm.

Peter Brown, spokesman for National Express East Coast, said: “The final whistle is unlikely to be much before 6pm, which means there are only a limited number of regular services available to fans returning home that evening.

“Existing bookings suggest those services will be busy, which is why we’re delighted to have been able to agree with Network Rail this additional train, adding an extra 530 seats that evening.”

Anyone planning on travelling back on 8 March is still being urged to book in advance and make a reservation, though. These can be made at www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com, by telephoning 08457 225 225 or at any staffed station.
