Work improves access at Chelmsford station

29 May 2009

National Express East Anglia and the Department for Transport have recently improved access for customers using Chelmsford station through a series of enhancements.

Work includes the provision of a new height adjustable and DDA compliant counter in the ticket office - the new modular style fittings comprise a window with a counter which can be adjusted in height to allow customers using wheelchairs and mobility vehicles to feel more comfortable when purchasing tickets or making enquiries.

New automatic doors have also recently been fitted at Chelmsford station’s Duke Street entrance making access to the station easier and new tactile paving and anti-slip stair coverings have also been installed at the station. Together, these improvements are helping to make the station more accessible and convenient for customers and visitors to the station.

The accessibility improvements have been jointly funded by National Express East Anglia and the Department for Transport through the Department’s Access for All Small Schemes fund.

Andrew Goodrum National Express East Anglia’s Director of Customer Services commented:

“Investment in facilities at stations is important in helping to meet our customer’s expectations for improvement. As a company we are committed to access for all and we hope that these improvements will make travel easier and more convenient.”
