National Express has invested in a fleet of new buses for Gatwick airside shuttle service under its 'Airlinks' operation.
The 12 single deck Mercedes Citaro's will transport holidaymakers and flight crew between the terminals and aircrafts up to 450 times everyday. National Express was awarded the contract in September 2009 and the investment in new vehicles brings the average age of the fleet down to three years – providing customers with modern, comfortable airport transfers.
The new Mercedes have 30% more capacity, allowing each bus to carry additional passengers. They are fully air-conditioned and boast Euro 5 engines which will help to reduce emissions at the airport.
Andy Evans, National Express, said: “Our new vehicles provide an improved passenger experience with air conditioning, extra room and brand new interiors while also helping to reduce carbon emissions at Gatwick. The investment emphasises our commitment to providing the best possible transport service for passengers and staff at the airport.”
National Express also operate airport bus services at other UK airports, including the Heathrow Hoppa and the Stansted City car park shuttle. They operate the UK’s largest airport coach network with hundreds of services running throughout Britain everyday.
