Energy efficient light fittings
Energy efficient light fittings will be installed across our portfolio over a five-year investment period. These installations will reduce the lighting electricity consumption by 40-50% and improve the lighting quality by up to three times the Lux level (100 Lux to 300 Lux).
Photovoltaic solar panels have been installed to the roofs of six depots and generate 4% of each garage's electricity consumption, reduce the cost of electricity, and reduce CO2 emissions.
A heating system trial at Coventry depot has delivered significant savings in gas consumption and electricity - saving over £45k on the annual gas and electricity bill. The gas fuelled radiant heating and electric air source pumps have saved over 2M kWh in energy consumption. Savings have been evaluated and verified by Energy Efficiency Verification Specialists (EEVS).
We are half way through a roof replacement program that will see new energy efficient roofing at all depots in the UK bus division. We are currently on a three year investment program reviewing and renewing heating systems in our garages and offices and have renewed Coventry depot and office air source heating systems. These systems will reduce the gas consumption by 117,390 kWh per year and reduce CO2 emissions by 70 tonnes.
After fitting heating control technology from sustainable engineering firm Vickers Electronics, the UK bus division has reduced its energy consumption by almost 12million kWh (55%) at nine bus depots in the West Midlands, reducing CO2 emissions by 2192 tonnes per annum.
