Global Safety Standards

We have set  out some clear behaviours related to safety which we expect all our staff to demonstrate.

Put Safety First

Making safety the highest priority in all our plans and operations.

Safety is always the first item in discussions with our people.

Take Personal Responsibility

We all understand and act upon our own, individual, responsibilities for safety.

Be Competent to Work Safely

We are trained and understand how to safely carry out our duties, and to lead others safely.

Our Driving Out Harm programme has introduced a fresh approach to how we manage safety across National Express. The programme both embraces the existing arrangements for managing safety and also introduces new elements such as safety management training and Global Standards to strengthen our control of safety risks in key areas.

The new Global Standards set  the minimum requirements in seven key areas:

Competence and Fitness - Bus and Coach drivers
Safety of Vehicles - Buses and Coaches
Personal Protective Equipment
Safety of Premises
Risk Assessment
Accident and Incident Investigation
Safety Audit and Internal Check

The Global Standards are supported by Golden Rules which set out four or five key actions which individuals need to follow.
