I have just joined National Express in September 2016 as a part of the UK Bus Graduate Management Trainee programme. I was really excited to be starting and am currently undertaking a structured training programme at our Wolverhampton site.
The recruitment process was very professional and challenged me to be my best. It also gave me a fantastic feel for the job. The assessment centres are run by a wide variety of different staff members who will help give you a wide understanding of the role and the company. There are lots of opportunities to speak to other graduates who have been through the scheme themselves.
Before even starting officially with the company I got to know the other graduates and we all attended an informal National Express lunch, giving us a chance to meet our colleagues before our first day. The network of graduates at National Express and the community that has been established here between graduates is incredible. It really gives you some built in support from day 1 and people to discuss your ideas with.
Even in my short time here so far I have seen a variety of different garages and shadowed multiple departments. No day is the same and the garage is never quiet or still. I have spent time working in the Traffic Office, looking at the day to day challenges that drivers have on the road and speaking to drivers on the radio, and also shadowing managers which gives you a real insight into how the business runs behind the scenes.
You will meet new people every day as a graduate here and it really is a fast paced and exciting role that will have you thinking on your feet and problem solving. I have learnt so much in just a few weeks and I have already visited our rail network in London, the coach business and a variety of our garages across the West Midlands!
There is still a great deal of the scheme that I am yet to experience and I am really looking forward to what my future at National Express holds.
