I graduated from North Central College in 2012 studying Business Management and Entrepreneurship; I quickly launched a successful sales career within the construction software field. After several promotions within my 3 years’ time, I realized I would not have the opportunity to reach a management or supervisor role within that company. Being a strong leader and having the desire to develop others led me to pursue a management training program within the growing industry of transportation. National Express, a global leader in transportation known for its excellence and customer service was the company I trusted with my development. As an unconventional graduate within the program I was able to bring my previous work experiences as I transitioned into a new and growing industry.
I joined the Durham School Services team in Aurora, IL to begin my training. After learning and progressing through several roles including Dispatch, Safety, Payroll and Billing I was able to earn my Yellow Belt with the Six Sigma business efficiency program. In March of 2016, I accepted the role as Operations Supervisor within the Aurora branch. This training would lend well to my first experience with the NX Network in Birmingham, England in June 2016 at the Warwick Business School. After working with the other graduates in the NX Network we quickly learned the similarities within our businesses on opposite sides of the globe. As a team, we were able to work on real issues that face the business within various countries to whom we provide service.
Upon my return to the States, we made improvements to our efficiency and safety in Aurora. I was given the opportunity in September 2016 to act as Interim General Manager of a troubled sister branch located in Naperville, IL. During my 3 months in Naperville, I have earned the trust of the drivers and office staff allowing for significant improvements in company culture, morale, employee development and operational costs. Working with our customers to restore faith in our company and business we have seen the improvements take effect.
The difficulty in Naperville prompted further growth as a manager and has led to another opportunity for me as I have recently accepted the position as General Manager back at my training origin in Aurora, IL starting in December 2016 upon my return from my second NX Networking event at the Aston Business School in Birmingham, England.
