Walsall Football Supporters’ Trust has thanked National Express West Midlands bus drivers for keeping the region moving throughout the pandemic.

The local bus company continued to run buses through all the lockdowns, ensuring hundreds of thousands of customers who relied on buses were able to make essential journeys.

National Express West Midlands bus drivers played a critical role in getting key workers to work in schools and hospitals. Residents were also able to attend important health appointments, including Covid and flu vaccinations, as well as travel to the shops for food and other important supplies.

As a thank you for their hard work, Walsall Football Supporters’ Trust kindly donated match tickets to National Express West Midlands’ depot in Walsall. Four drivers were nominated to enjoy the game on Saturday 9th October, with Walsall winning 2-1 against Salford City.

Trevor Reece, Chairman of Walsall Football Supporters’ Trust, said:

“Walsall Football Supporters’ Trust wanted to make sure National Express West Midlands staff were recognised for their work in keeping people moving throughout the difficult days of the pandemic.

“Bus drivers are critical key workers out there providing a lifeline on the frontline. They are among the “unsung heroes” in our community and we wanted to show our appreciation by providing some free tickets so they could enjoy some downtime at a local match.”

Steven Welsh, Bus Driver for National Express West Midlands, said:

“We are all really grateful to Walsall Football Supporters’ Trust for their lovely gesture in donating free tickets to the match - it’s so nice to be recognised and we really enjoyed the game.

“As bus drivers we are proud to play our part in providing a clean, safe and reliable bus service so that our customers can get to where they need to be.”
