Britain's lowest coach fare to Portsmouth and Southampton launched
Londoners travelling to and from Portsmouth and Southampton will be the first to benefit from 99p coach fares – the lowest coach fare available in Britain.
National Express, the UK’s number one scheduled coach operator is trialling the low cost fare before rolling it out nationwide if it proves popular with customers.
A massive 20,000 coach seats priced at 99p, with no booking fee or hidden extras are available to book at www.nationalexpress.com. The low cost fare means travelling to Portsmouth and Southampton from London is now cheaper than a litre of petrol.
The 99p price tag is fast replacing the £1 as a symbol of value for money in Britain. Earlier this week it was revealed that the number of UK discount shops, such as popular chain ‘99p stores’ has surged by 60 per cent in two years - suggesting the recession is making consumers thriftier.
Guy Stephenson, Commercial Director from National Express said, “With people looking for the best possible deal it’s important British businesses rise to the challenge and provide high quality service at a low cost. We believe we’re the first scheduled coach operator in Britain to introduce a 99p fare to ensure travel is affordable for everyone in these tough economic times.”
National Express now operates 22 services throughout the day, everyday, between London and Southampton and 19 services between London and Portsmouth with ten brand new direct services launching on the 11 September. For less than a litre of petrol you’ll travel from London to Portsmouth or Southampton in just over two hours with free WiFi, leather seats and air conditioning.
Every National Express coach on this route is fully wheelchair accessible with eight dedicated seats for child booster chairs. Children under the age of three travel for free. For more information about National Express services visit www.nationalexpress.com or call 08717 818181.
The 99p fare is available to book from 7 September. There are no hidden extras or booking fees.
