National Express launch 'Nano-break' seat sale
National Express has launched a sale of 40,000 coach fares for £5 or less this week, in response to the growing demand for UK ‘Nano – breaks.’
According to new research the ‘Nano–break’ – an overnight or weekend getaway – is growing in popularity as Britons explore their regional towns and cities for the weekend, but return for the working week to protect their jobs.
In a study of 1,409 Britons, commissioned by coach operator National Express, half (48%) stated they had been on a short UK break of two -three days in the last six months. A quarter (25%) stated that Nano-breaks are the best way of escaping while saving holiday allowance and providing access to work if needed - potentially protecting their job.
Recognising the popularity of last minute breaks, National Express has launched 40,000 low cost coach fares for travel between 16 – 26 August to make ‘Nano –breaks’ more affordable. Fares for under £5 are available to over 40 destinations across England, Scotland and Wales exclusively atwww.nationalexpress.com

According to the study “exploring the UK” was found to be the top purpose for Nano-breaks (37%), followed by visiting family and friends (36%), romantic breaks (29%), getting away with the family (26%) and going to events (14%). Destinations of Nano-breaks are quite evenly split between countryside (33%), cities (30%) and the seaside.
Whilst in their chosen location, Britons favour sightseeing (66%), eating and drinking (57%), rambling (37%), historical visits (37%), shopping (34%) and socialising (26%)
The 40,000 seats for £5 or under are one-way fares and are subject to availability. The fares are only available on National Express coaches within the UK, and are available on 10% of seats on selected services for travel from 16th August to 26th August.
