Armed Forces Day is an annual campaign celebrating the outstanding contribution of our servicemen and women, past and present, to the life of the country. Nottingham is host for this year's Armed Forces Day national event on Saturday 29 June. The first Armed Forces Day national event was held at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham in 2009. Subsequent national celebrations were held in Cardiff in 2010, Edinburgh in 2011 and Plymouth in 2012. Further information can be found at www.armedforcesday.org.uk.
The Armed Forces Day national event in Nottingham will be the culmination of a week of celebrations, beginning on Monday 24 June with the national raising of the Armed Forces Day flag, and including Uniform to Work Day on 26 June, when thousands of men and women who make up the Reserve Forces put on their uniforms to go to work. Uniform to Work Day takes place every year, and celebrates those people who give up their free time to serve their country.
There are many ways the public can show their support for Armed Forces Day. These include supporting through the Facebook and Twitter (www.facebook.com/armedforcesday; www.twitter.com/armedforces_day).
