Bournemouth driver Lorraine is ‘ad-solutely’ fabulous
Bournemouth coach driver, Lorraine Barnes
Bournemouth coach driver Lorraine Barnes is on the road to stardom after being picked from thousands of drivers to star in a TV campaign for one of the biggest names in transport.
The driver from Westbourne, who is in her forties, was hand picked for a starring role in National Express’s new advert called ‘Go Get It!’ because of her sunny customer service skills.
Lorraine was chosen from 2,000 National Express drivers to star in the company’s new commercial, which is part of the UK's largest coach company's campaign to help people travel affordably this spring.
The campaign aims to show people the breath of destinations and experiences open to them when travelling by coach from city breaks to beach trips and music festivals. It also shows the benefits of choosing coach compared to other modes of transport such as a guaranteed seat and onboard plug sockets.
Alongside the TV advert the coach company is also launching a new blog blog.nationalexpress.com offering hints and tips for people travelling around the country including top things to do in Bournemouth.
National Express decided Lorraine’s eye-catching smile could be used to light up the new commercial. Now Lorraine, who carries thousands of passengers on the 032 service from Southampton via Bournemouth to London, and her family are eagerly anticipating her appearing on TV screens all over the country. She will be appearing alongside just one other coach driver, Bob Wilson from Feltham, London.
Lorraine has been a coach driver throughout her career and she has a 25-year-old daughter - Lianne La Havas - a well known folk singer.
Lorraine explained she was really surprised to be asked to do the advert but said yes right away. She remembers being at the centre of many a drama at school: “I loved singing and acting so I was delighted to be asked to be in this.” she added.
Lorraine loves her job and finds talking to her customers the best part of it, she said:
“I love talking to the older customers; sometimes I’m the first person they talk to and we get on so well. I’m a happy, smiley person anyway, but chatting to customers makes me extra enthusiastic.
“I have built up good friendships with my regular passengers – some give me lots of hugs and ask me how I am.”
National Express UK Coach Managing Director Tom Stables said: “National Express has an unrivalled network of coach services covering around a thousand destinations in the UK and with Go Get It! we really wanted to illustrate the sorts of doors this opens to people from city breaks to beach trips and the benefits of great value coach including guaranteed seats and connectivity. What possible better ambassador for us than to launch this campaign than one of our professional drivers?
“Lorraine is the perfect fit for our new advert: with her infectious smile Lorraine naturally makes our Bournemouth passengers feel happy, she is a fantastic 'Go Get It! ambassador.”
The ‘Go Get It’ advert, which is part of the company’s new spring advertising campaign, follows on from National Express’s widely acclaimed ‘Silver Lady’ TV advert featuring former Starsky and Hutch star David Soul.
Due to begin appearing on TV at the end of the month, the advert features the strapline: ‘Go Get It’ and shows short clips of some of the UK’s best loved destinations reachable coach, as well as a beaming Lorraine.
National Express coaches travel from Bournemouth to more than 156 UK destinations, and nearly half a million coach journeys are made from the seaside resort every year.
