Fun Day funds topped up by Charity Panel
A West Midlands bus driver has secured a £150 donation from the National Express Employee Charity Panel to help top up school funds raised at a local Fun Day.
St Albans Church of England Primary School in Wolverhampton was badly damaged during a fire in February and the Friends of St Albans committee organised a Fun Day at Ashmore Park on 28 March, to help raise money towards the school repairs and replacement equipment.
Bryan Murphy, a 36 year old driver at National Express West Midlands’ Wolverhampton garage, has two young children that attend the school and he wanted to help with the fundraising, so he took part in a sponsored hair and beard shave.
Bryan’s rather large beard is something that he was extremely proud of and often received comments about, however he went from Beardy to Baldy in less than one minute at Theo’s Barber Shop in Wolverhampton. A time lapse video can be seen here.
To top up the massive £650 that he raised through donations towards his sponsored shave, Bryan applied to the National Express Employee Charity Panel and secured another £150 for St Albans. The £800 total will go towards the replacement of music and sports equipment which was destroyed by the fire in February.
Bryan said: “My daughter has been learning how to play the violin and music is really important to her. My son is a sports fanatic and the equipment being destroyed by the fire was really upsetting for both of them. As they both love music and sport, I wanted to help ensure that they and future generations benefit from the new equipment so I’d like to thank the Employee Charity Panel and all those that sponsored me for their generous support.”
The National Express Employee Charity Panel helps support employees in their own charitable work. The Panel is made up of employees from around the National Express business who meet quarterly to decide which good causes they will support. The Panel awarded almost £17,000 to 65 charities and organisations nominated by employees throughout 2014.
