National Express keeps the wheels in motion at half term
National Express has seen a scramble for coach seats for the forthcoming half term as rail engineering works threaten people's travel plans.
According to advanced bookings figures, year-on-year passenger numbers have jumped more than 70 per cent on routes to London on the weekends either side of half term, when engineering works on the West Coast Main Line are taking place.
The planned engineering works are set to disrupt train services on the West Coast Main Line over two weekends: 14-15 and 21-22 February, impacting services on Virgin, Transpennine and Northern Rail trains.
They will affect travel to London from major cities including Birmingham, Coventry, Edinburgh, Liverpool, and Manchester, with passengers facing longer journey times, multiple changes and replacement buses.
National Express on the other hand, is running direct services from all the affected locations and it has already taken thousands of coach bookings on all routes affected by the engineering works that will disrupt train services.
To cope with the extra demand, the national coach operator has added thousands of extra seats to its services on West Coast Main Line routes and is on standby to add more if necessary.
The top ten most popular coach journeys from stops on the West Coast Main Line to London during the disruption are:
- Birmingham - London
- Manchester - London
- Liverpool - London
- Coventry - London
- Milton Keynes - London
- Chester - London
- Edinburgh - London
- Wolverhampton - London
- Glasgow - London
- Preston - London
