Scramble for coach during Easter engineering works
National Express has added more than 15,000 extra coach seats to cope with demand for affordable travel this Easter (Friday 3 April 2015 - Monday 6 April 2015).
The UK’s largest coach operator today (Wednesday 11 March 2015) reveals coach bookings are soaring this Easter as rail engineering work on two major routes looks set to throw a spanner in people’s travel plans.
Tens of thousands of bookings have already been made on the coach network over the forthcoming Easter weekend while engineering works on the First Great Western and West Coast Main Lines are going to cause major disruption to the rail network.
Planned engineering works over the Easter weekend on the two major rail routes from the North and South West of England into London will mean longer journey times, multiple changes and replacement buses, affecting rail passengers travelling to and from the capital.
National Express has taken thousands of advance coach bookings for travel from the affected locations at Easter.
Coach services between Birmingham and London on the West Coast Main Line have had the most bookings, while Bristol to London coach services have had the most bookings for locations on the First Great Western Line.
As a result National Express has added more than 160 extra coaches and 15,000 extra seats to the network to cope with increased demand over the Easter weekend, and it stands ready to add more seats as necessary.
The coach giant can also reveal the top ten most popular destinations to reach this Easter.
Perhaps unsurprisingly London is the most popular destination, closely followed by Heathrow and Stansted Airports, as passengers look to jet off. Easter Friday, meanwhile, is the most popular day to travel.
The top ten most popular destinations by advance booking this Easter are:
- Luton Airport
National Express UK Coach Managing Director Tom Stables said: “With disruption forecast on two of the major rail routes at Easter it’s no wonder that our coaches are filling up fast. We are committed to adding as many seats as necessary over the long weekend so people can benefit from our comfortable, direct and affordable services to around 1,000 UK destinations.”
