Ten thousand reasons to smile!
National Express Dundee and Radio Tay’s Cash for Kids launched their charity partnership by celebrating the massive £10,000 raised by fundraising drivers during the past year.
During 2014 employees of the bus operator were hard at work supporting Cash for Kids through a variety of activities, such as driving the Superhero Tour Bus, organising the charity’s first abseil down the University of Dundee’s Tower Building, and dressing up as Santa to gather donations for Mission Christmas, which provides gifts for kids in deprived families across Tayside.

Drivers Ross Murdoch and Allan Fordyce lead a dedicated team of staff who give up their own time throughout the year to gather sponsorship and donations for the local charity, which works to improve the lives of local children.
Now National Express Dundee is committing to support the charity in various ways throughout 2015 - giving donations of money, providing vehicles for events or enabling employees to participate in fundraising activities.
Interim Managing Director of National Express Dundee Elsie Turbyne said:
“We are extremely proud of Ross, Allan and all the other staff who regularly give up their time so generously to raise money for this deserving cause.
“Thanks to their hard work and dedication, as well as donations from customers and the company, together we have raised £10,000 for local children, and I can’t think of a better way to launch our partnership with Cash for Kids.
“We intend to continue our support for this charity throughout 2015 and hope to equal, if not exceed, last year’s amazing total!”
The money raised by National Express Dundee for Cash for Kids goes directly to young people in Dundee and the surrounding area. Some of the funds have been used to:
- Buy beds for children in poverty
- Provide short breaks for young carers
- Purchase equipment for children with physical disabilities
- Give Christmas gifts to children who otherwise may have had none
Cash for Kids Charity Manager Lynda Sword said:
“We have been overwhelmed with the support shown by National Express Dundee. Both employees and customers displayed the kind of drive, enthusiasm and generosity that makes Cash for Kids proud to work with such a fantastic company.
“I’d like to thank everyone for getting involved and helping us to improve the lives of so many local children.”
