The Road to Love
Royden and Kate Greaves
The road to love is more affordable than ever with National Express this Valentine’s Day driving thousands of romance seekers to book a break.
The UK’s largest coach operator is making thousands of fares for a fiver available on the special date (Saturday 14 February 2015) so that couples can make a getaway for less.
National Express has seen bookings on Valentine’s Day grow by nearly 20 per cent year-on-year as people look to spend some special time together without breaking the bank.
Lonely hearts out there could well end up falling in love on a coach too. Amazingly two passengers who fell for each other after meeting on a National Express coach ten years ago have just celebrated their second wedding anniversary.
Royden and Kate Greaves, aged 29 and 27, met on the number 452 coach going from London Victoria to Nottingham at the end of 2004.
The couple now live in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, and Royden is a Wealth Manager for a big financial company while Kate is a Wish Granter for a children’s charity.
They got chatting after the coach driver encouraged passengers to talk to each other. Before leaving the station, the driver made an announcement to the whole coach that he wanted everyone to turn to the person next to them and introduce themselves.
Kate explained: “He made everyone laugh and created a warm atmosphere, but more than that he did something that was much longer lasting, which he will have no knowledge of.
“I chatted with the young man next to me for the whole of the journey up to Nottingham and then parted ways expecting never to see him again... except two days later we got exactly the same coach back to London again.”
Kate and Royden kept in touch, fell in love, and married on 15 September 2012. Kate added: “It shows the drivers should keep doing what they do - a warm friendly attitude can go a long way!"
National Express UK Coach Managing Director Tom Stables said: “Valentine’s Day is a great excuse for couples to spend some quality time together on a special break, while those single people out there could end up sitting next to their future spouse like Kate and Royden.
“With thousands of coach fares available for a fiver, everyone can travel affordably this Valentine’s Day.”
The five most popular romantic destinations this Valentine’s Day according to National Express’s advance bookings are London followed by Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and Manchester.
