How are you getting to Dundee’s Light Nights?
Xplore Dundee is reminding anyone planning to attend this year’s Christmas lights celebrations that going by bus is the quickest and easiest way to travel. The operator is preparing for a weekend of events and activities to mark the beginning of the city’s festive season.
Xplore Dundee Managing Director Elsie Turbyne said: “This is one of the busiest nights in Dundee’s calendar and we’re fully prepared for it, with extra buses and staff lined up to make sure everyone gets there in time for the big moment when the lights are switched on and home safely again later.
“And because there are events happening all weekend, we’ve got discounted tickets to get you to all of the city centre action, plus free travel for Santas taking part in the Santa Dash on Sunday. I would encourage people to avoid the queues for the car parks and take the bus to really enjoy this year’s Light Nights Christmas celebrations!”
Xplore Dundee is highlighting its discounted tickets in time for the special Christmas events; the Evening Saver is valid from 6pm and offers travel on all routes for just £3, while the Weekend Saver is also available, giving access to the city’s network of buses for £7 from 6pm on Friday until last bus on Sunday. Families or groups of friends can also buy a Group Saver, which allows up to five people to travel all day for £8.
The bus operator is also offering free transport for this weekend’s very first charity Santa Dash - participants dressed in costume will be allowed to board without charge on the day of the event, Sunday 26th November, which is aimed at raising money for the ARCHIE Foundation.
A number of diversions will be in place from Friday afternoon, following road closures to accommodate the weekend’s Light Nights celebrations and Santa Dash – full details of these can be found on Xplore Dundee’s website or by contacting the Travel Centre in Commercial Street. Inspectors and managers will be in the city centre throughout the weekend to ensure customers are aware of any changes and directed to the correct stops.
