National Express West Midlands celebrates National Apprenticeships Week
Chian, Tiffany and Karlton Edwards all work for National Express West Midlands
National Express West Midlands employs over 5,500 staff, which this year includes 29 apprentices in roles across the company’s ten garages in the region.
As a local bus operator, the company has several different families that have a number of relatives employed in roles across the business.
In January this year 17-year-old Chian Edwards from Tipton followed in her sister and her father’s footsteps by joining National Express West Midlands.
Chian is the younger sister of Tiffany Edwards, 20, who started working with the bus company as an admin apprentice in November 2015. A year later, she had completed her apprenticeship and secured a permanent position at the company’s busy West Bromwich garage.
Chian is the newest Edwards family recruit having recently started an admin apprenticeship at the Wolverhampton bus garage. Chian said:
“My sister completed her apprenticeship late last year and was given a permanent role at the end of it, so I’m hopeful that I can achieve the same. I only started a couple of months ago and it’s busy, but I’m really enjoying it so far and hope that through my apprenticeship I will develop my potential for a long-lasting career with National Express.”
It’s not just the Edwards sisters that are enjoying a career with National Express West Midlands. Driver Training Officer Karlton Edwards, 36, has been with the business for nearly nine years, having started out as a driver for the West Bromwich garage.
Karlton said: “I have six kids and two of them have already followed me to National Express West Midlands! I can imagine the others might follow. One of the buses operating out of West Bromwich garage is also named after my eight-year-old daughter Alayna-Lillie so she’s part of our bus family already.”
