Bus boost for young musicians
Parents, family and friends are travelling by bus to the Caird Hall to see the Primary Showcase, part of the annual celebration of music in Dundee’s schools and featuring groups such as Ancrum Primary String Group.
Xplore Dundee is working in harmony with Dundee’s Education Department to make sure all young people have access to music.
The bus operator’s donated a number of tickets which are used to provide travel for any school pupil who needs assistance to get to and from Music Centre activities. It’s the second year Xplore Dundee has worked in partnership with the department in this way.
Managing Director Elsie Turbyne said, “We recognise that bus travel is often the only mode of transport for many people to access school, work and leisure activities and we work hard to ensure fares are affordable for all. We’re glad to support Dundee’s Instrumental Music Service, as this sort of extra-curricular activity is so valuable for young people.”
Dundee Schools’ annual Spring Concerts are taking place this week (Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st March) at the Caird Hall, and provide a showcase for all the hard work undertaken throughout the year by pupils and staff.
Kenny Christie, Dundee City Council education support officer for arts and culture, said: "We really appreciate this support from Xplore Dundee and it helps to encourage every young person to take part in an excellent range of activities. Our Spring Concerts are a real highlight of the city's cultural calendar and are a superb showcase for the talents of our young people."
There are a wide range of buses travelling to the city centre for those attending the Spring Concerts at the Caird Hall, including Services 22, 5 and the Outer Circle. Customers can also purchase mobile tickets on their smartphone via Xplore Dundee’s new mTicket app, which offers discounted single, adult and weekly fares.
