Alsa starts bus operations in Porto, Portugal

Alsa, Mobico Group's Spanish arm, has begun a new 7-year contract operating 200 buses in the metropolitan area of Porto, Portugal.

The new services build on Alsa's presence in the country, following its entry into the Portuguese market in 2022 with a 7-year contract in Lisbon.

The Porto contract was awarded to Alsa by the Metropolitan Area of Oporto (AMP) in 2020. It sees Alsa invest in a brand new fleet of 72 buses of GNL and electric Eco or Zero emission, and 128 Euro VI vehicles, employee training for 350 drivers, and maintenance facilities.

The new contract serves a population of 750,000 people in the north of Porto including the cities of Gondomar, Santo Tirso, Valongo and Paredes. The network is formed by 131 routes (urban and intercity), included in the UNIR system, a brand that pools together the public transport in the metropolitan area of Porto.

Alsa´s CEO, Francisco Iglesias, said:

"The mobilisation of the contract of Porto the same year we are celebrating our first centenary is a new success in our growth strategy abroad, and in the urban segment. Thanks to the outstanding work of our professionals, we keep focused on leading the modal shift towards public transport, and on becoming the top operator in public mobility at the international level”.
